Man in front of TV dead for six months

The body of a 54-year-old who lay dead on his couch in front of his TV for six months was found – after landlords complained he had not been paying his rent.

Cops in Salzburg said housing officials called them in after not receiving rent payment for months.

Police spokesman Rudolf Feichtinger said: "We found a huge pile of letters, advertisement and newspapers at the man’s door. Apparently no one missed the man.

"We discovered his corpse lying on the sofa with the TV running."

An autopsy revealed the man – who lived in a block of flats at the Graf Zeppelin square in Salzburg-Taxham – died in March. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

This case comes just weeks after police in Salzburg-Gnigl discovered the corpse of an 84-year-old woman who had been dead for one and a half years.

Police spokesman Feichtinger appealed to residents to stay in touch with each other and inform authorities if they had even the slightest doubt about the welfare of neighbours. He also advised people living on their own to contact residents on a regular basis.
