iono, i just think the first rinnegan sage used its powers differently than pain did...kekeigenkais are a combination of certain elements...like haku controls ice because his ancestors were able to combine ice with wind, the senju shodaime was able to do wood jutsus because they combined earth with water....the rinnegan is a combination of all 6 elements (i think there's 6), so there should be more to it imo
