Maybe Madara is Madara, and his mangekyou sharingan allowed him to live for so long. Maybe after he was defeated by the first he transported himself into that other dimension and just stayed there for a while.
Thinking the same thing ,maiby he merged whit zetsu cells somehow and thats how he got the ability to remove parts of his body , cant remember the episode but in the fight he lost his arms hes shoen in his base whit a new arm wich looked exactly as zetsu skin
