I've never gone around saying "hey, I like *whatever anime*", but I've never lied about what I think about anime either, and being honest about it has never given me any problems. If someone thinks you are a cool/nice/fun guy before they find out you like anime, I doubt they'll change the opinion they have about you. If you are confident in yourself, you can make anything look cool or at least acceptable. And if they do shun you, they really are closed minded people, I personaly tend to avoid these anyway.
