Yu Yu Hakusho sounds like it might be up your alley. One of my favorites and it blows DBZ out of the water.

Arcana Famiglia

These 4 animes that I recommend all have fighting and I guess you could say a special ability that could be "magic". I also listed them from what I enjoyed most and D.Gray-man is on top with Deadman Wonderland right after. I hope this helped.
