The one piece wiki cites Hammond as a "former Arlong Pirate". The tattoo is permanent for the most part, and I can assume that he also chooses to continue wearing it with pride. The sunny tattoo is their current jolly roger.

This makes more sense. Also, the arlong / anonymous "boss" comparisons are far too different to be the same individual. Facial structure is radically different.

I'm thoroughly convinced that "the boss" is not arlong.

the wikia i most likely wrong, simply based on it's made by people who know as much as us, and no more

They're a little more dedicated then jsp's anime subforum.


Also in my experience with using it, they've nearly always been spot on whereas this subforum has been laughably, embarrassingly wrong on so many occasions it almost physically pains me. The beauty of the wiki is that it's self correcting. If somebody puts false info up, it'll be corrected once it's spotted. That is why generally the wiki is extremely accurate and detailed. Again, this is my experience so I'm not suggesting you have to take this as your own. But I feel like many will agree with me.


I feel like the arlong hypothesis is under supported and and just generally unappealing altogether.

Meanwhile the alternative I posted above makes much more sense. It stands much taller as a hypothesis then the arlong one does.

dedication or not, they do not have any more information than us, mistakes that can't be proven to be mistakes will not be fixed until there is proof that it is a mistake

I do agree that for the most part wiki is correct. but in this occasion of Hammond being a former Arlong member is only a guess. This guess is only based on the fact that he has Arlong's mark tattooed on himself. which imo could only mean 1 of 2 things. Either he was a former crew mate and left the crew before Arlong left for East Blue or he wears the tattoo in honor of Arlong who is now captured and was a close friend of Hammond.

The whole point however is the logical path they have taken seems much more likely and in compliance with the story line then what you proposed. It's a superior hypothesis.

its not arlong cause they said

"Let's go back to "Noah" for now and let the boss know that the one who crushed Arlong-sans ambition, "straw hat" is here"

and when they talked to him
they didnt call him Arlong-san they called him boss
