Instead he became king of the moon.
I don't know if you read the manga or not, but the anime left out a part. Enel actually reaches the moon.

Yes I read about this, there was a chapter about him and room creatures if I'm not mistaken.

I had skipped the opening (since I had already watched it over 999999x) when I watched the newest episode so I didn't notice but a V2 of the opening is out and it changes the part after luffy uses gear third to the strawhats fighting marines. Worth a watch.
