In one of the other movies the entire crew is gathered but they haven't even met Chopper yet. Sounds to me like the movies are more of an alternate reality then the real thing.

They could easily bring back golden lion into the actual show. I'd expect this especially since they made the effort of explaining him.

With Golden shiki explaining they pretty much showed how the era was in the past, thats his reason.

This was the only movie written by Oda and is considered cannon as it came w/a manga chapter for backstory
