So maybe it's something worth looking forward to.

I would like to see how the Visards become what they are during this flashback arc if it's mainly based on the flashback.

But it's un-usual how they start this filler arc off, I sort of skipped most of the episode after watching about 5 minutes of it.

Na, not a filler. It's in the manga and is vital to the story, a must watch. It was interesting in the manga, so should be good during the anime. Expect to see some familiar faces.
