i don't understand how seinen is considered a "genre"

"older people might like it" doesn't actually tell you anything about the show, and if you look up seinen on like mal or something you get the most rediculous mashup of different shit that has nothing in common
it's like a genre that exists solely to make people in their late teens and early 20s feel like better about lacking maturity and watching cartoons

o ya to be on topic... i'll go with, psychological + crime + science fiction

Don't get me wrong
Ecchi / Comedy isn't bad but the market is full of it

i don't think any genre is inherently bad
the expectations of fans for specific genres decide the quality of the end product

The genre of the "being stuck in an MMO" is becoming overplayed though.

think so? i can only think of 6 and remember the names of 3 without googling it
how many school life comedies can you name?
I don't think it's the mmo aspect that is getting boring but rather the lonely weak kid gets superpowers and defeats the evil king.

soa was a typical show, completely uncontroversial in every way, so why is it so polarizing?

it's so much easier to have opinions on garden variety childrens shows than to talk about anything deeper than a fantasy shounen.

how do you think the character relationship dynamics of gankutsuou compare to the classic french adventure novel it was based off of?

what do you think of the ethical dilema of prejudgement based on a person's psychological state depicted in in psycho pass?

was yagami light a good guy or a bad guy?

no, people don't want to talk about these things, they want to say "popular things are bad because they exist and are popular"
