In my limited experience dubbed has been better than subbed, especially for Death Note/Code Geass. I've watched both a couple of times and the subs completely missed lines of text that were suppose to make a statement by L humorous. By missing a word or two in each of these lines, it makes it as though L is just saying something stupid. If you've actually watched the show, you will know this is something that he doesn't do normally and it seems strange that only the subs make him look dumb in certain scenes. Hellsing is another one for me, not so much that the subbing is bad, I just prefer Alucard's voice in English compared to his Japanese counterpart.

Personal opinions ofc.

I also often like to turn on an anime whilst failing asleep or have it as background noise while I'm gaming. It doesn't quite work if it's subbed and it's an anime I haven't seen 100000 times.

definitely sub, as a non-native English speaker, I have quite the experience with dubbed stuff and it is pretty much the same for Jap - Eng, especially with girl characters it seems they have fucking hard time getting the voice right, males are slightly better but that's because they are naturally deeper

It goes the other way for me. I can't stand a lot of the casting choices for female characters in sub, it's just annoying to me. Not that English is always better but it can make an unbearable show become watchable for me sometimes. I do enjoy the dialogue in anime, just depends on the show. Monster/Death Note/Code Geass/Fma Brotherhood/Hellsing all make for great background noise. I'm the kind of guy who has to always be listening to something or doing something. Even if I'm gaming with no volume, I have to have something playing in the background or else I start feeling all antsy. Obviously I'm against the norm with a lot of people who watch a decent amount of anime, I just have my reasons and I personally don't think anything is wrong with either. I just noticed a couple key differences in my favorite anime (death note) that took away from the show because of bad subs. I always hear that dubs take away from the story and can ruin shows and so on and so forth and yet it was the opposite for my all time favorite lol.

Raw > subs and dubs. Few situations where dub is actually better are like .... samurai champloo..... Sora no otoshimono.... FMA:BH .... thats bout it.
