doubtful, i'm an anime fan and i dropped soa part way thru because i didn't like the characters
Yea, but I think the concept is really easy for people that are new to anime but like gaming to get in to.

Very little ecchi is most recommended unless the person is a pervert already.
Anime that are very emotional will be good.
Things that have leave off on cliffhangers a lot will be good.
Randomness and shows with heavy Japanese comedy is not recommended as people won't know what the hell is going on.
Steins;gate
Code Geass
Clannad Afterstory
FMA: B
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Rainbow
Angel Beats
Psycho-Pass

either fma. It's my go-to anime for when my friends try to give me crap abt anime. Then they watch a few episodes and before we know it, we finish the series in 2 days. again
Always start with an action/adventure. Something with progression. Animes without direction become easy to drop
Do NOT start with romance or ecchi. That is probably the best way for people to confirm the stereotypical 'for kids, girls, and perverts only'

Death Note for sure, it's undoubtedly the best anime to watch for starters, but it also depends on the genre the person likes, whether more slice of life or action
then theres always shows like
Toradora
Clannad
SnK
FMAB
Angel Beats
Fate/Zero
Geass
Hellsing
Unless the person likes it, just make sure not to recommend too many of those harem/ecchi shows because although they may be fun to watch for time to time, it's a bit of a waste of time

I would skip on clannad for beginners, if they get the idea anime is sad and depressing as shit, they might just run away
