going by that doesn't sound like you got far xD
there is plot, but it's not really on the surface, but there is a major common thing between a decent number of the arcs that relates to something very specific

cause in the manga we didn't see that Erza fight, but the anime did show it (which i feel the manga purposely planned for that to be done)

Stopped watching after a few of the guild got trapped in time on an island for something like 15 years, everyone has aged and gotten stronger but those trapped in time who remained the same, but still seem to be just that little bit stronger than the current big enemy and win their battle.
