When I was about to watch Bakemonogatari for the first time, my dad passed by and asked why was I wasting time watching animes and I responded: Well, Ive heard a lot of positive things about this one. It's got interesting/memorable characters, thought provoking themes, appealing dialogues and references to other animes. Then my dad was like "Oh, really? Sounds good I'll watch some of it."

....BOOM, the first 10 seconds of Bakemonogatari... Hanekawa's pantyshot. My dad left with a disappointed look on his face as he said "you really are something".
