hate is a word that often has different meanings to different people.

but to put it into perspective for you, imagine you are watching a anime and a character of the anime is someone who often makes terrible choices comparable to the characters in scary movies. Now that character has made terrible choices over and over again and you start to just want those choices to bite him/her in the ass,
but they never do that starts to build a feeling of discomfort because you realize you will have to continue watching this character do stupid stuff that perhaps offends you.This eventually leads into a feeling of hatred where you no longer care about this certain character in anyway and infact hope they kill him/her off asap so you can just enjoy the rest of the series.

that is how one can hate a 23 character.
