"If you liked Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle then you'll love Mononoke and Nausicaa as well."
What he said. NausicaƤ is one of my favorite Miyazakis, along with Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Full of symbolism and beautiful imagery.
It's worth a watch, if only for being one of the earliest Ghiblis and being entirely written and directed by Miyazaki.
One anime movie that I really love and that hasn't been mentioned yet is Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.
"After witnessing the suicide bombing of a terrorist girl, Kazuki Fuse becomes haunted by her image, and is forced to undergo retraining for his position in the Capital Police's Special Unit. However, unknown to him, he becomes a key player in a dispute between Capital and Local Police forces, as he finds himself increasingly involved with the sister of the very girl he saw die." (MAL)
It's a dark, twisted reinterpretation of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale, set in an alternative post-WWII fascist Japan.
There's a somewhat complex political intrigue within the plot and you have to pay attention to understand who exactly is being manipulated by whom, but the main focus is on the character of Fuse.
It explores the duality of human nature and Fuse's inner conflict between his own 'human desires' and his sense of belonging to his 'wolf pack'.
Great anime movie imho, can't recommend it enough.
