Oh yeah. It does get dirty... Change water every other day. My friend's been living there for over 3 years... Lol

gets to be kinda a bitch tho, since goldfish tends to grow fairly big...
so ofc the bigger it gets the more often you have to change the water + the detoxifer doesn't really come cheap if you change it everyday =/
i think i am just gonna get another betta... they dont grow that big and cool w/ my 2 gallon *replacing the thing with another filter*

But yes, I prefer tank too. If its the filter's fault, can't you complain and get a new one?
