The magazine mangas are published in.. well that isn't the only one =P but that is the most popular one (Weekly Shounen Jump)
Should read Bakuman (or start watching the anime) . It doesn't tell you the name of every magazine that publishes manga but it does give you definitions of what it means to be in certain magazines such as Jump

Question. Who do you think will be Luffy's main marine rival?

Gol D. Roger >>>> Garp


Monkey D. Luffy >>>> ????


My two best guesses are either Smoker or Coby. For now I'll stick with smoker until Coby shows some kind of significant leap in strength

Smoker's been there since the beginning, and technically already has that enemy / respected rival aspect. Now that smokers requested to be transferred to the new world it only seems like he'll keep chasing him.

Coby on the other hand has shown the ability to have haki which makes him a big deal and also has some level of rivalry with Luffy while being a marine. Plus they're of about the same age so they'll be active for roughly the exact same time period. Coby's just so ridiculously weak at the moment though, so anything would have to be future tense.

Thoughts?

Imo Smoker. Garp and Roger were enemies before they were friends. It is the opposite w/Luffy and Coby

imo, smoker is going to be the person that luffy first demonstrates that he can fight logia users against.
i dont wanna have luffy's main rival be some guy from an older generation who isn't even as strong as a shichibukai.

yeah I started this discussion 2 weeks ago or so

I only just started reading the manga within the past week, so I'm new here. And of course I didn't read the entire thread.

As for sheik's comment, you think smoker will or will not be? Sounds like you said he wouldn't be.

I feel like Smoker could get a butt kicking but then adapt. He's not necessarily that simple

well I usually read a few pages back in any thread to get an idea of what's going on without looking like an ass
