Pain would absolutely eat him alive. He'd be EASILY killed he had to go against the Yahiko body, much faster than Kakashi would. And I already mentioned this to you, if Kakashi was meant to die, he would be dead. Kishi could have killed ANYONE from the village at that time because they were all being resurrected anyway. He chose Kakashi because he's an important character whose death would shock the readers, which it did. I think Kakashi's long range prowess would be too much for Gai to handle. Yeah, he knows how to fight someone with a Sharingan without looking at their eyes but that doesn't change the fact that his opponent still has a Sharingan which is a bolstering advantage especially at close range. As Kakashi told Naruto when they were chasing Deidara, long ranged opponents are an absolute nightmare for close ranged fighters, which is the case in Kakashi vs Gai also.
the fact is kakashi died meant to or not he died.....you cant put gai in that situation and say he would easily just cause lousy kakashi 3v1 lost. sorry. yahiko body was a speed thing and seeing how the 7 gates pushes against the atmosphere its possible gai could withstand yahikos push and make it there in 5secs or less anywho thats neither here nor there the manga shows exactly what happened.
being at a disadvantage doesnt mean you lose otherwise konohamaru would have lost :P. Hell shikamaru beat hidan 1 v 1. just means you have to think outside the box which i believe can be attributed to gai seeing as how its stated how amazing he is in such a wierd ninja field. not to mention the warnings the gokage got about how powerful kisame was gai was like np.!
and we already seen a sharingan user lose to taijutsu so its not impossible kakashis speed + taijutsu are definitely not on par with gais that would make no sense from kisames praise. ofc the sharingan makes it so kakashi can preemp shit but i doubt his speed would allow it.
yes we've seen kakashi open the 1st gate and that is all nothing else about that so we cant assume he can go further. whereas gai has opened the 7th gate and had confirmation from kakashi that he could open the 8th.
gai has ridiculous stamina and with all fights in this manga of note i think gais 3 against kisame were the quickest? so endurance definitely will be a factor again i think kakashi has used kamui 3 times in this fight and was keeled over so thats his limit so if you want to go with the gates + kamui + active sharingan kakashi is going to falter somewhere
