Well it was confirmed, as me (and many OG naruto readers) assumed several years ago when tobi was first introduced. It makes a lot of sense and explains quite a bit, really. You have to consider his goals + what he has been through.
I can't say for sure whether or not he is alone in that body though - he claims to have knowledge of when madara was still around, but there may have been other ways for him to obtain that.
Either way, the outcome was expected.....
1. madara his self confirmed he died shortly after he awoken the rinn
2. nagato got the rinn as a kid before / during the 2nd world war
3. obtio was not even born yet, he was a kid during the 3rd world war
4. obtio could not of met madara

5. itachi who found tobi before the slaughter of the uchiha, itachi also deduced why tobi was there when tobi was trying to remain hidden tobi could hide nothing from itachi ,

7. tobi showed his face to kisame " with long hair" when he was controlling the mizukage
8. tobi showed his face with short hair to kisame in part 2
9. tobi with short hair and tobi with long hair are the same person, the same person who attacked the 4th and took control of the fox with shargian using kamui
10. obito would of been 13-14 when that attack happened
11. obito was shown to be the same size as kakashi, at 13 much shorter then the 4th,
12 when tobi fought 4th they were the same size roughly this happend about a year after obitos "death"
13 obito was a loser a failure, he clung on to the pride of the uchiha it was a symbol he was most proud of he pointed to his clan symbol several times in a prideful manner
14 tobi had a extreme deep hatred for the clan

other then the name tobi, obito but you must understand the names are written in Jap, and completely different and the hair styles are similar but all uchiha hair styles are similar and tobi grows and cuts his hair randomly
non of this makes sense
