I said it might be obito long ago due to certain things, everyone laughed it off but I guess I will restate them.
A:
Obito was crushed : Tobi was constantly slothing off damaged parts in battle. He stated at the kage summit that he is too weak due to damage he sustained in previous battles (he said with the 1st, but he is not madara so I assumed being crushed by the cave.
B:
Obito was a kid / he wasn't evil when he was truely obito: Whos to say, since Zetsu is "one with the earth", that he is not of senju dna? And he needed Obito's Uchiha to become the sage of the 6 paths. Maybe tobi is just the innocent Obito, but Zetsu took over his body / brainwashed him into a type of "The leaf got you killed, let me fuse with your body and heal you and you can take revenge on them" Type of deal
As for him being a kid, He could be in a situation like Jugo where he was once a kid, but when zetsu fused with him, he became an adult looking form (Like when jugo was a kid, but killed / absorbed the soilder he killed and became an adult again.

Similar to Jugo, Zetsu may of offered Obito further life other than just dying under a rock by fusing his white self with obito.
I am assuming Zetsu is senju and wanted an uchiha mixed into him.
Similar to when jugo absorbed a guard and went from small to big again, that is what could of happened with Obito... along with White Zetsu's evil intentions taking over Obito's psyche.
Along with that, until Tobi fought Konan, he only showed one sharingan.. When he fought her, he had 2, which could be attributed to him killing the clan and having 50+ sharingan on-hand
Not to mention if Madara really created origional zetsu (which I believe is completely incorrect information, I am talking about the origional Zetsu not more clone white zetsues) That would attribute why Tobi was so angry when he learned nagato brought the Hidden leaf back to life instead of madara, because he wanted to bring his creator back to the living world.
He would need to pick an uchiha that was weak enough to fully control. We see that uchiha who are strong, such as Sasuke, are not as easy to control (even though he was sick, using orochimaru's little body xfer shit as an example), whereas Zetsu could of had the better idea and take control of him while he is weak.. And as for the bolded part of your statement, he sounds like he is mimicing Kisame when he fought Gai the (2nd?) (when he was a dead body or w/e just remotely controlled by itachi and kisame) and kisame said "you dont remember me".. apparently gai is known for forgetting his formidable enemies?

I actually put some work into my theory, I think it makes plenty of sense, but if I am wrong oh well.. not going to be the end of the world for me..
If you don't like it thats fine, but its my opinion on a "twist" that would have all the information already backed up through stuff represented in the magna. I previously saw Obito as just a filler as to how Kakashi got his sharingan, but I would like to see something like this pale out
