You must've watched the entire series incorrectly....
Illumi stopped controlling Killua once he took the needle out.
EVERYONE asked or stated about the needle being taken out too.
Illumi wanted Alluka's power by controlling Killua, if he is controlling Killua, then WHY THE FUCK DID HE TELEPORT ILLUMI AWAY.
He made alluka's other self aka "Something" go away, so Alluka can be safe from everyone and can live as a normal human.
But Alluka wants Killua to accept Alluka as a whole, including Something.


Movies do not reflect the actual series, so no he didn't keep it, if he did, then Gon kept it too.

Illumi wants Alluka, Killua is close with Alluka, Alluka is only useful if Something is there.
If Something is gone, Alluka is useless. So no more Alluka and Killua in Illumi's mind
