Whether or not the Rasengan kills or not all depends on the writing. It defeated Pain, and destroyed one of the other paths in 1 shot. Kabuto survived. IIRC, some random thug that Jiraiya put down with it survived. I think Kishi threw logic out the window some time ago, around the same time he decided to exclude most of the details that made the story really good, like how it was in part 1. It seemed like every last action that a person performed was analyzed and thoroughly explained. I guess the only logic that he could throw in there is that the mask has special properties that make it durable and blah blah blah.
But alas, the mask is broken now. The only way we're not going to see him is if he cuts it to a different part of the story (god I hope not) or they just talk the whole next chapter as he holds his face. The only reason I could see him holding it back is that he wants to do it on chapter 600 to make it special and whatnot.
hrm simple as using the rinnegan to absorb/shifting out of that dimension before rasenghan actually hits him/the mask(i mean kishi already said the mask was made specifically for war/so many other reasons
