Similar to Jugo, Zetsu may of offered Obito further life other than just dying under a rock by fusing his white self with obito.
I am assuming Zetsu is senju and wanted an uchiha mixed into him.
Similar to when jugo absorbed a guard and went from small to big again, that is what could of happened with Obito... along with White Zetsu's evil intentions taking over Obito's psyche.
Along with that, until Tobi fought Konan, he only showed one sharingan.. When he fought her, he had 2, which could be attributed to him killing the clan and having 50+ sharingan on-hand
Not to mention if Madara really created origional zetsu (which I believe is completely incorrect information, I am talking about the origional Zetsu not more clone white zetsues) That would attribute why Tobi was so angry when he learned nagato brought the Hidden leaf back to life instead of madara, because he wanted to bring his creator back to the living world.

even if your theory is right out of all the shitty characters out there, you think Zetsu picked this kid?

what is gai going to do? get stronger when he knows who his enemy?
i'd rather have a character that all the characters in the ninja world would recognize and react to with a surprise.
not some nobody that would just be introduced when the mask is taken off, that would kinda of kill the whole "i'm this badass behind this mask... and no one will find out.. NEVER!"
and change it to a "even if they do take off my mask, they won't know who i am cause i only kakashi knows me and he's obviously the protagonist of the whole anime.. so all i have done is to trick and fuck with that one person... Kakashi, that white haired asshole"

not only do you have to look at the hints that the author gives you which everybody has been doing very well obviously, but you gotta of look at how the story is told and how it will make an anime "better"
and by this, kishi put a fucking mask on some dude that knows how to destroy the world.

He would need to pick an uchiha that was weak enough to fully control. We see that uchiha who are strong, such as Sasuke, are not as easy to control (even though he was sick, using orochimaru's little body xfer shit as an example), whereas Zetsu could of had the better idea and take control of him while he is weak.. And as for the bolded part of your statement, he sounds like he is mimicing Kisame when he fought Gai the (2nd?) (when he was a dead body or w/e just remotely controlled by itachi and kisame) and kisame said "you dont remember me".. apparently gai is known for forgetting his formidable enemies?
