His love for Rem was never romantic, so not sure why people would think he'd ever end up with her.
Though i recall someone saying there was a Side Story where that actually happens, so i guess there's always that if true.

afaik none of the save points are in dangerous situations, normal wake up isn't the same as returning to a save point after death
