Roger had it when he was young, before becoming pirate king and he then gave it to Shanks, why would he tell the whole world that its on Raftel when its not? Epic troll if he did tho.
Roger also told Whitebeard about one piece and there was no reaction from wb when he met luffy.

though one piece is a treasure and nothing about friendship or whatsoever.

One piece being a tangible treasure like for example a awesome sword or w/e would be almost as lame as it being the straw hat..
My bet is on that the one piece is the ancient kingdom.

i thinks its the 100% complete history of the world including the 1000 years that were blacked out from history and roger wants the strongest of the strongest to find it so that way when the navy comes looking for them cause they have it they will be able to handle the navy

and only reason roger hid it was because he was dieing and didnt have the time to reveal the true history cause obviously the people would rebel against the world government

Plus the four yonkou were supposedly battling over territory / in search of the one piece.

Why would shanks be doing so if he already had the one piece?

I also don't think the one piece is strictly treasure. The hat idea is cooler than that crap.

Yeah, the one who find the OP will find the ancient kingdom and learn the history of it all along with what the meaning of the will of D is.
No way that the OP is something you could keep in your pocket or in a treasure chest tho..
I'd say its just knowledge, which makes sense seing as just before he died he created the pirate age.
If Roger had come out with the story of the ancient kingdom and the 1000 missing years on his deathbed and then spread it all over the world before he died the marines would probably have had an easier time taking control of the pirates and random civilians.
When he created the pirate age he made sure the resistance against the marines would be alot bigger once the OP was found again.
In chapter 395 page 9 prof. Clover is talking about the ancient kingdom and just as he is about to say the name of the country, he is shot dead.
Something that hints to the one piece not being an actual item but rather a country.
