From reading the last page notes, this is just another manga where the main char(i assume natsu) does no real training but somehow gets stronger during the fight because of emotions or the enemy teaches him.
na natsu is special he is a "dragon slayer"
he was taught how to fight and use magic by a dragon and aparently there is a dragon for each element he befriends a wind and iron dragon slayer
there is evidence that they have been around for a long time if not immortal threw a method of rebirth, he is very unique and that is how he gets his wtf plot hacks, but it seems he dosent have a memory of his previous life nor do any of the other dragon slayers also to support this natsu and the iron dragon slayer were caught in a magic trap that said people over the age of 80 can not pass and they couldn't get threw also zeref the main villain recognized natsu and started talking to him like they have know each other for a while
the main villian is a mage named Zeref who was supposed to have lived 400 years or so ago and people of today are still battling some of the horrible magic he created and every one thinks he is dead
but we recently found out he is alive and seems to have "just woken up" and he confronts natsu asking him if he can do the job this time if he can kill him,
also back in the story we were introduced to a black dragon who hates humans so one is to assume Zeref the villain is a dragon slayer also and the black dragon taught him " but he seems to be pretty humane and dosent enjoy war or killing but cant control his magic and creates these horrible monsters and evil beings and all kinds of nasty stuff,
MY personal opinion is the black dragon took Zeref and trained him in forbidden evil dragon slayer magic to case havoc on the world and then a few other dragons took children them selves to train them to stop zeref
i also think for some reason there is some sort of code saying that dragons can not get directly involved in the affairs of humans so thats why they took on human students, i dont know perhaps there is some much more powerful dragon king that the other dragons still respect and listen to

but over all its still a jump and is similar to other storys but its fun the characters are fun and there are a lot of funny parts like Natsu gets motion sickness on any form of transportation and such its just good times
