And according to Tobi, he gave Nagato the Rinnegan. He's the only one who stated anything about that thus far, so I'm waiting until I hear the whole story of Tobi before I believe anything that he says.

i didnt think rinnegan is an advanced sharingan..i thought the ocular jutsus [idk about byakugan] originated from the bijuu thing that the sage guy took control of and sealed inside himself b/c when u look at its eye u can see the sharingan pattern and the circles from rin.
in other words whatever youd call that eye that the bijuu thing has.. sharin and rin are lesser versions of that
