I don't remember them talking about his past at all except during the movie.

You sure they did? I remember they talked about Hinamori, Renji, Rukia, and Kira, but not Hitsugaya

If they talked about his past, it was before the arc. The big fight starts after it.

Ulquiorra states that he'll show him what he's like when he fights seriously.
さらに変身して終了～
Ulquiorra completes his transformation (hinting he wasn't through transforming before)
