When you think about it, brute strength or (power level as they say in db) does not necessarily make one a strong fighter.
Remember the Ascended Saiyan form in cell Saga?

Gohan while being the strongest power level at the time of becoming mystic let Buu get into his head and in the end got distracted and thrashed by Super Buu
Goku and Vegeta possibly a bit lower in power level had more will power at the end on series and managed to hold on .

As far as him being a nerd, I wasn't completely wrong. He started the series that way end ended the series that way when he settled into family life with Videl

By the time of dbs Vegeta is way stronger

Yea that's definitely filler. It hasn't ever been mentioned anywhere else and especially not in the manga.

I think we were talking about cell saga. They were mentioning future trunk being the weakest sayjin from all of them.

My mistake. I thought we were talking about buu saga since we mentioned Trunks would get creamed by buu since it took ss3 goku with help to beat him
