most of the names in naruto obviously have a meaning or some history behind it outside of the anime world (which i HOPE you all know)
like Shikamaru
Shika = deer (deer clan or some shit)
Ino = boar (no idea how it relates)
Cho = butterfly (Chouji's butterfly wings)
Sasuke = Ninja warrior
Sakura = flower (explains her flower job)
naruto = that ramen shit he likes to eat

etc.. etc.. etc..
the writer of Naruto just didn't pull names out of his ass or copy them from a different anime or some shit
he's using actual historical names of people and mythical creatures.
this goes along with all of the other anime writers

Goku isn't from Japan, a lot of Japanese mythology actually originates from China

Son Goku for example is a actually an original work from China.

Kyubi or the nine tailed fox is actually an age old myth from Asia, there are thousands of records dating back to the Shang Dynasty which actually indicated the Kyubi's first appearance.
