I started reading mangas again (I never was into animes, but i bought a fair share of comic books in the past), and am now looking for some rather seinen and dark series that are worth reading. Stuff like:

Blade Of The Immortal
Battle Angel Alita
Berserk
20th Century Boys
Beck (well thats not really "dark", but a great manga)
Homunculus
Vagabond / REAL

Monster- Same author as 20th Century boys, and is just as good.

Battle Royale-Not as thought provoking, but has an interesting premise, plus extremely high levels of gore.

Hanshin- It's a short one shot, no violence or anything, but I recommend it anyway, it's pretty creepy actually and a great read.

20th Century Boys is far better than Monster imo, though Monster is still good. Monster just drags on too much imo.


But ya Battle Royale is gorey as fuck, and a decent read.

Why did you bold Battle Angel Alita? Did you like it better than the others or something?

Anyway read, GantZ it gets amazing (and that says something, considering I've read all of the manga you've listed).

i've heard good things about Eden, but haven't read it yet

Eden is great, didn't really like Monster. I've also already read Battle Royale (and seen the awful movie rendition of it... ).

And yes, Alita is my favorite manga ever. I really like the post-apocalypse theme. One of the best character developments I've seen in comics. I own all 9 books and know them by heart (Last Order is ok, but never as great as the original).
