Alright, so we've seen people like Kakashi and Danzo who have the Sharingan implanted in their eyes have no choice but to have it activated at all times. We know that Obito forfeited his left Sharingan to Kakashi, and Tobi's mask before the Rinnegan only exposed the right eye. My roommate and I started talking and got to wondering; what happens when an Uchiha implants someone else's Sharingan in their eye to replace one that they've lost? Would they have to cover it up because it's always active? Or, would they be able to deactivate it? If it's the former, perhaps Tobi's original mask served the purpose of covering an implanted Sharingan so he didn't lose energy, like Kakashi's headband did for him. Tobi said that he collected good pairs of eyes over the years and we've seen him use Izanagi to save his ass against Konan while still retaining his right Sharingan. There's no reason to believe that he didn't have 2 Sharingans. To sum up, a hypothesis we developed was that if Obito is Tobi then he may have to cover his implanted Sharingan, which is what his original mask may have done for him. Not saying that I strongly support this theory, but it's something to think about.

i think he just uses the mask to cover his face like kakashi
so no one can see wat he looks like
the only times we got a glimpse of his face was when he showed his sharingan to sasuke
he got a new mask because his old one got blown up by konan

about the hypothesis of the sharingan being activated at all times,
i think tobi can keep it on forever like itachi

when tobi took his mask off he had the lines under his eyes
the sharingan is also on his right eye

when danzo took off the bandages
he also only had lines under his eyes on the right
which is also where his sharingan is

and he still had his body intact
theres a page where sasuke and tobi is standing overlooking his body

and everyone here mentions with impure res you keep the eyes you had when you died
he had like 100 sharingans and shisui's
regardless if he died to sasuke he wouldve been one to be on the field vs konoha

for all we know
the tobi overlooking the battle couldve been a genjutsu

danzo also told sasuke to go back while hes going to take shisuis eye
he pushed it too
like he didnt want sasuke to see

not to mention danzo himself was the one who gave itachi the order
that would also fit in with the knowledge tobi had when he told sasuke

I also did consider that. However, I don't think it can be confirmed either way. Tobi could have still concealed his face with 2 eye holes, like he's doing now with the Rinnegan. This leaves the possibility that his right eye is actually somewhat of a mystery. I don't doubt at all that Tobi is at a level where he can keep his Sharingan activated at all times though.
