This is the point I wanted to bring up. Did madara underestimate the joint shinobi forces? It seems without Kabuto this war would have been over much faster. Even with Kabuto the shinobi forces seem to be cleaning up the best they have to offer.
So if madara never knew kabuto was going to join forces and all he had was a bunch of zetsu's what was the point of fighting the shinobi forces? Even if it was a free for all. Without kabuto its pointless. what was madara thinking and what is he planning? did he know from the start kabuto had his own motives? did he plan for that?
