how could u have expected differently from gon?
he sacrificed several body parts in greed island just to win against an opponent who was stronger than him.
even though they had the cards that could fully heal any wound, he still didnt fight smart.
i think they did the right thing here, gon was bound to snap and throw everything away to punish someone who did something he thought to be completely unacceptable. (of course this would require an enemy he couldnt hope to defeat in his current state)
Its not Gon's fighting spirit I dislike, its how they manifested it. He fought stupid which I do like, but I wish he had fought stupid in a different way. Growing like Bisky and fucking things up just felt so horribly cliche to me. I've seen it too many times, and didn't wanna see it in a story crafted as intelligently as HxH.Quote (Tricon @ May 28 2014 04:34pm)
I feel this arc just showed the series isn't scared of taking the main focus away from the main character, introducing and killing new characters in maybe non-fan-favorite ways (long fights with strong conviction and desperation being the key to victory).
I am not dumb enough to not understand people see things differently, I however am quite the fan of this arc. ^^
I wouldn't have said no to more Kurapica/Leorio though, but as I remember it, it didn't feel slow in the manga (if you manage to ignore the year-long hiatuses). They slowed the pace down after Greed Island, probably because it was nearing the point of the manga and also it was the first time chimera arc was being animated, as opposed to everything prior.
Yeah I imagine reading through the manga is much more efficient since you aren't locked into 25 minute episodes. I also like how he introduces likable characters and kills them off. The way he uses death in this series (this arc in particular) to instigate character development and storyline progression is brilliant. A little more brief as a whole would make it easier to tie everything together nicely and make things a little more concise. Its just a stylistic preference that disappoints me in this climax. I will have to watch it again so I can think about it more, but my immediate feelings about what happened were "That's it? Its over?"
