Maybe. This episode just captures one of the things I dislike most in anime. I'm also upset that its the conclusion to such a large arc, it didn't live up to my expectations with all of that buildup. I think having Gon sort of lose it and go ape shit on Pitou would have been a good way to start. He sustains a few injuries and uses a ton of nen and then Killua arrives and snaps him out of it. They work together to beat Pitou in a "smart" way, like HxH does best. There was nothing "smart" about this fight. He just made a sacrifice, got a power up, killed her. I actually like that fights in HxH are so short, but this one wasn't interesting.
Giant conflict from Gon's perspective. And yeah, the character development has been a serious strong suit of this arc. I would have included more main characters, however, since it was so long. If you're going to have a character development arc, include Hisoka and Kurapika and Leorio at the least.
I feel this arc just showed the series isn't scared of taking the main focus away from the main character, introducing and killing new characters in maybe non-fan-favorite ways (long fights with strong conviction and desperation being the key to victory).
I am not dumb enough to not understand people see things differently, I however am quite the fan of this arc. ^^
I wouldn't have said no to more Kurapica/Leorio though, but as I remember it, it didn't feel slow in the manga (if you manage to ignore the year-long hiatuses). They slowed the pace down after Greed Island, probably because it was nearing the point of the manga and also it was the first time chimera arc was being animated, as opposed to everything prior.
