it was the firenation colonies in the first part of the show, zuko tried to give all that land back to the earth king after the war but the fire nation citizens and the earth king citizens living there didnt want that, so aang and zuko decided to make it its own place kinda like the Vatican city in rome ,

republic city is supposed to be the for front of balance, a city where all people are accepted equally all nations can come and live peacefully in a democratic type government, not the monarchy that have exists for thousands of years before hand

Episodes 11 and 12 will air together as the season finale so 2 weeks left.
I wonder how long we will have to wait for season 2 :/ and I really hope season 1 ends in a cliffhanger or something that will make me want more even if I will have to wait.
