I always like to recommend Death Note to people that are new to Anime
It's not that long and honestly it's easily in my top 5.

If you like Claymore I think you should watch Berserk. You could check the movies but I'd recommend the Anime (i would ultimately recommend the manga)
It's somehow similar to Claymore, just a lot more dark and gorey.

I'm currently looking for Animes similar to Death Note/Code Geass so can't help you there. Someone did recommend me Eureka Seven though, been meaning to check it out.

Looking for sports anime/manga recommendation

So far I have gotten through One Outs, Slam Dunk, Dear Boys, Kuroko, Hajime no Ippo, Prince of Tennis, Suzuka.
Not sure if I've named them all but those are what came to mind.

If there is an awesome manga/anime about weightlifting let me know.
