From what I understand there is no scientifically proven evidence of someone being able to perfectly recall whole images after a long period of time (on the level of what fiction represents photographic memory to be)
The brain just doesn't seem to work like that and tends to fill in/make up details from what you can remember
IMO the problem is the way our brain works, not the eye
The closest and best solution would probably be some kind of advanced contact lens, less biological and more technological
In all seriousness, more like having our Pineal gland actually work outside of REM sleep.
