I do the same thing. It's just hard with anime because they are usually so far apart lol.

Eh depends on the studio really
Generic equipment and a decent cast make a really terrible dub
Quality sound control in a quality studio with a good cast have made a few good dubs

And im saying a FEW

Maybe 2-3 titles that were dubed stuck out to me because they used proper character based on the region
Like you dont use some black guy for an English character

Per say
Dubs suck though for the most part

Awesome :D , thanks for letting me know.

I watched Black Butler last night with subs and I'm starting to think that subs are honestly for dumb people.... they cut out like 50% of the dialogue from the dub version. I know this isn't the case with every anime but that's the third one I've watched and done a close dub/sub comparison and it wasn't even close which was more detailed.

....

I think to have a fair comparison you would have to compare the Japanese dub to the English subs. It is most likely that the English dub is adding more, while the English sub is remaining true.

When people are constantly talking about English Sub > Dub, I think I'm comparing it fairly. Like I said, I've only done it with a couple of shows and I found it hilariously funny how bad some of the subs were compared to their dubbed counterpart. People who scream sub>dub obviously haven't actually watched enough dubbed or perhaps enjoy mediocre writing as opposed to quality dialogue. I'm not saying all subbed is bad or anything, I've watched quite a few shows subbed that I've enjoyed immensely. I just think it's stupid to blindly jump on one side without having actually done any comparisons because the "anime world" says subbed is better lol.

When the difference is bad writing because it's pure and good writing that's been slightly altered to fit the language but changes nothing in the story or character development.... well, the choice should be obvious.

Personal opinions ofc but I just don't understand what's wrong with adding a few words that don't directly impact anything to make it flow in an intelligible way.

You said subs are for dumb people. I think that contradicts the whole "I'm not saying subbed is bad or anything."

It's not even a debate, honestly. The subbed one is the more accurate one. The reason that you shouldn't discredit the "anime world" is that many in it actually speak the language and have a more knowledgeable opinion than you do.

I said " I'm starting to think" , which is not a definitive statement. I'm loving the arrogance though, you have a better knowledge/grasp on the Japanese language and therefore you have a more significant knowledge of the English language? Once again, I've done side by side comparisons on a few and the subs (In these few) were comparable to the writing of children. The only point you've made is that being a purist somehow surpasses superior writing, it honestly makes no sense. Things are meant to adapt and as long as the story/characters are not damaged in anyway from the original then what's the problem?

I know that the dubs on certain shows do damage the entire content of the story and that's not acceptable and obviously the subbed version will be better. The point was that people who refuse to watch any dub because it's not pure without knowing that with 100% certainty are going to be nothing but sheep. Make an opinion for yourself and don't just agree with the majority, hence the "I'm starting to think subs are for dumb people". Perhaps I should have been a little more tactful with that statement but it's made my point regardless.

The concept of dubbing is flawed. Not just in anime, in everything.

You don't change a piece of art to suit the audience.
