a lot of the people i tell either also watch anime and were shocked that i watch it too,
or they're just like, "oh, cool. i like this and this." and just shrug it off. people don't care tbh.

I agree with this. lol. I'm not gonna go around telling people i know nothing about or just met what my hobbies are. But for the most part, everyonei associate myself with on a regular basis knows i watch anime, and for the most part, so do they.
The descrimination of Otaku doesn't go past the Anime world. If it did, anime probably would have died out since so many are afraid of what their image might be
