Watched about 50 episodes of fairy tail (wasn't a huge fan) and I never was able to get into Naruto. I heard shippoden was awesome but I didn't want to just skip there and I honestly just can't handle super kiddy stuff.
Death Note is in my top 5 for sure, a lot of people call it main stream trash blah blah. I thought it was extremely well written, it knows when to end and although the ending is sad; it's a fitting ending imho.
I used to hate naruto too, shippuden is great though, gets out of the annoying stuff and into some qwesom shit
