anyone who watches hataraku maou sama usually should get addicted to anime because that series is a drug.

It's best to start with movies like Satoshi Kon's, Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh or 5 Centimeter per Second.

Good series would be Detroit Metal City, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell And Texhnolyze since they don't need alot of knowledge of Japanese culture.

Worst option to get someone started should be series with typical Japanese humor and slow SoLs.
