I really dig Samurai Champloo. I watched it in my teens and fell in love and have rewatched it recently. The closest thing I've seen to it has been, of course, Cowboy Bebop (which I enjoyed, but not to the extent of SC) and, humorously, The Boondocks.

I am looking for more shows similar to SC. I enjoy the art style, the timeline/historical setting mixed with the modern elements of hip-hop/etc. Also; the characters and the storyline progression.

I've checked out Baccano which was recommended to me by a friend but it doesn't really grab me in the same manner that SC does and I can't really put a finger on why. The characters seem a little more childish and, to be honest, the progression has been difficult to follow or maintain my interest.

I've also watched Afro Samurai which I was told would be similar, but  I found to be utterly boring.

I'm not sure if I'm chasing nostalgia or if SC is just a super good series but either would, I would love to hear some other recommendations

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal is a must see

As somebody mentioned, Sword of the Stranger is also very good.

Maybe Peacemaker?

You can try for Samurai 7 as well, although I feel it is lacking.
Same goes for Sengoku Basara.

It is a joke. Just mindless lolz. Kinda like an inferior Gurren Lagan but with a 'medieval' theme. It had some lolz, nothing more.

And if we're recommending manga, then I seriously urge OP (and anyone, really) to read Vagabond.
Shit's boss.
