watch fma. its ~x10 better than brotherhood, but if you start with brotherhood, you ruin the original

I actually disagree with this - I think brotherhood is much better than the original. No one can deny that it's a lot darker. But I think the original may be easier for a western watcher to understand.

But I do agree that you should start with the original. They both start similarly but they go in different directions midway through.

When they caught up to the manga, the producers had to create their own story/plot/arc whatever you call it halfway through the series (you can think of it as fillers from episode x to the end of FMA).

FMAB on the other hand was aired AFTER the manga was completed, so it stays "true" to the manga. The beginning of FMAB is rushed like crazy since the material was already covered by FMA (recapping 1-10 episodes into 3-4 episodes). After that they pick off where FMA left off to its original manga counterpart in a more slow/detailed paste
