Death note does not have nearly the impact Monster has. I've watched both multiple times, but I can still open a random episode of monster and become engrossed. It's undoubtedly one of the best created in recent years.

KnK was fantastic as well. The music is all done by Yuki Kajiura, the plot is brilliant, the voice acting includes the likes of Nakata Jouji and Tanaka Rie, and it's animated by Ufotable. I really don't see how you can call it an atrocity.

if it was like 25 episodes it would have been much better

25 episode animes are for rom coms and random mech shows

get on the level of monster IMO instead of complaining about it.

edit: do people bitch about good books being too long? No because that is a stupid fucking thing to say

see what I am hinting at?

They both have their fair share of problems and shoves too much of their attempted epicness down my throat.

Oh, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes did pretty much the same thing and the reason I still love it is because of its consistence in doing so.
It never claims to be anything else than a bombastic and cheesy space opera and the thematic exploration, character concepts and every single turn of event only serve to support the notion and make it the strongest experience possible.

Monster tries to do something similar, but falls short when it comes to the narrative and has many parts where inconsistent pacing single-handedly drags the whole thing down.
It side tracks for the sake of side tracking, with many episodes and twists that served no purpose for either character development or for building tension. It had an intriguing and, for the most part, fleshed out cast and occasionally engrossing writing, but the lack of focus really shone through.

Death Note started out strong with a great first season, but simply ran out of things do to and still kept pushing it. The show suffered accordingly as we all know and the last third is thoroughly weak with no sense of direction whatsoever.

So basically, LotGH >> Monster > Death Note

Even though i kinda agree with you.
I liked how it's slow-paced story went to explain all the characters and such and what they're like, it shows the great character development it had, thats why Doctor Tenma is one of my most favourite protagonists in anime history.
Almost everyone had great character development.
It just makes me sad how people stay away from it because it has 74 eps, such a great storyline and wonderful characters to get attached to until the very end.
Shoulda cut it down a few eps though i agree, some are useless and unneeded.

Lol, on youtube the first ep has 50k views, all other eps have 7k, and ep 74 has 60k views
alot of people skipped to the end, makes me die a little inside because it was really a masterpiece.
