I don't know if you've read the latest chapter (but spoiler warning here),
We know for sure that Tobi is NOT the real Uchiha Madara, since the real Uchiha Madara has been resurrected by Kabuto with impure resurrection.
We've also seen that Madara also has the Rinnegan and we've learned that the rinnegan can be unlocked from the Sharingan. We already knew that the Uchiha were descendents of the Sage of the 8 Paths, so now we know for sure that they can also unlock the Rinnegan (meaning someone like Sasuke could do this in the future). It's implied that only people with the Eternal Mangekyou can do this though, so Kakashi wouldn't ever be able too.
It's been speculated that it might be Madara's brother, but that's impossible. Madara then wouldn't have been able to make his Eternal Mankegyou..So we have to presume it cannot be his brother.
The only time Tobi has ever revealed his face is when he did it willingly to Sasuke to gain his trust and once it was accidentally broken off, but only part of it. It's been speculated that it's actually Uchiha Obito. This theory was thrown around A LOT when Tobi was first thrown into the series..
Obito's body was never actually found and this is stated in the manga. Only half of his face was crushed (And Tobi only has one Sharingan, conveniently on the side that would have been Obito's uncrushed side). Some other similarities that people have thrown out is that their hair is actually very similar and the mask that Tobi wears in the beginning of his appearance could be a "remake" or sorts of the orange goggles he used to wear.
Some people have argued though that when Tobi fought the 4th Hokage, you would think that the 4th would know his own pupil.. But, since Tobi was wearing a mask and Obito has been presumed dead for so long, the thought probably wouldn't even occur to the 4th (that they would reveal in the manga).
Just some thoughts.

tobi is some one a little older the fox recognized tobi with his mask on most likley cause fox read chakara pretty good, the fox recognized tobi when tobi attack the village when naruto was born, the fox has been in possession of the leaf for decades over 50 years, 1st's wife took fox from madara and its been in leaf
possession from then, so how do you propose the fox knew who tobi was? when naruto was born only 16 years ago, tobi must be some one older ,
