it's one of those where the main character is supposed to be a genius and he has so much power, but then fucks it all up and you can constantly think of stuff he could have done better, so why doesn't he do that stuff being a genius?

i think less intelligent people like death note more for this reason! :o

Yeah pretty much this, you build him up the entire first season, only to have every single thing they built come crashing down. Really no point in watching the second season, just assume the end of the first season was the end of the series.
