That isn't really paradoxical. One can assume they like something given that the one thing they tasted or seen and enjoyed is from a certain category. Often exploring that category either keeps them in enjoyment or makes them irritated that they can't find anything much the same.

The medium of animation, or anime for japanese animation, for them is Naruto, because that is what they have seen so far. Of course there are a lot more anime, but if one likes Naruto I doubt they wouldn't like a lot of other ones.

Naruto is an amazing story, it's overly friendship is everything or w.e theme is a bit annoying but it is a story that captured many, including myself.

In fact I'm going to read the new story that is based on the same world just because I like the previous on, which is a similar mindset.

All of that aside. It is not paradoxical O.o.

naruto lacks a very large amount of what is defined as anime.
i feel it's in it's own category, and merely resembles anime with its animated character designs.

i agree however the show can introduce people to anime, but only because they're confused and think that naruto was anime and want to watch something "similar"

the statement from OP is paradoxical, because naruto is not anime, therefore you cannot say "i like anime. i've seen naruto, but nothing else." because you have never watched anime.

I've seen many other shows that have the same depth and themes as Naruto. While they are not prevalent among the anime category, they are there. And to be honest I favor those over a lot of anime.

Remember that everything in its own essence is only a story, and its own expression and medium may be their own titles. There is going to be many overlapping features no matter where you go.
