I've never read manga before, this is the first time I have been interested to do it... Would it be bad for me to try to read it as a first?

The worst thing that can happen is that you don't like it. Give it a go, I hear the manga is good.

Personal opinion for manga(haven't read Attack on Titan).

Pick one that updates more frequently or is completed to find out if you enjoy them or not. Attack on Titan seems to only have a new chapter a month from what i've seen. That's extremely slow paced.

That would personally put me off from manga if i was just starting out. Look up other anime you have enjoyed and try the manga for them if they are updated more frequently or complete. that would be your best bet in terms to finding out if you enjoy reading them or not.

Mangas better than the anime in some aspect

Especially cause there's less action at some points
